Improve Your Club with Employee Suggestions
Many businesses don’t listen to employees. Data from about ten years ago showed that about 66% of Japanese employees regularly generate ideas, while only about 12% of American employees do.
A further statistic was that on average Japanaese managers used 4 out of 5 suggestions, while American managers used only 1 in 4. If you ask for suggestions and don’t use them, employees are going to stop making them.
There are lots of ways to reward suggestions. Verbal or written acknowledgement is a big motivator. If the suggestion cuts costs or generates new income, it’s nice to give the employee a piece of the action. One company offers employees one hour off of paid personal time for every reasonable suggestion to cut costs. If a suggestion is implemented, the employee receives a half day off with pay, as well as 10% of any first-year savings.
